What is the easiest thing I can do to help the planet? |
Buy Green, Buy Fair, Buy Local, Buy Used, and most importantly, Buy Less.
Kind of ironic we are promoting buying less, but we are convinced that part of appreciating what you already have is just getting it organized.
“Shopping is not the solution to the environmental problems we currently face because the real changes we need just aren’t for sale in even the greenest shop. But, when we do shop, we should ensure our dollars support businesses that protect the environment and worker rights. Look beyond vague claims on packages like “all natural” to find hard facts. Is it organic? Is it free of super-toxic PVC plastic?” (From Annie Leonard, The Story of Stuff)
MOME:life products are designed and fabricated in California, by people we know, not by underage workers in a toxic factory in a far-away place. There is no overseas shipping or costs to our global environment. Less pollution, Less waste. Local economy. Local workers.
MOMElife products are modern heirlooms: products that are designed and crafted to last a lifetime. And, if the products reach the end of their useful life, they are completely recyclable. In fact, a recycling center will give you money for the weight value of the metal. There is a reason we make our products as ‘singular materials’: so that they are completely recyclable. Products made of many products sandwiched together are harder to take apart and recycle or re-use.
The interchangeability allows our products to be reorganized for a fresh look. No need to buy new or throw away. Our system will last you a lifetime.
Reduce, Re-use, Recycle: a key to reducing consumption and re-using what we have is having a system to organize and see what you have. When you can find your roll of tape, or your sharp knives, then you don’t need to purchase another. And, displaying your things so you can see and access them gives them value and honor and helps you appreciate what you do have already!
